Vera Daves opens the academic year at UCAN: “Dare to dream and dare to make your dreams happen”

“Dare to dream and dare to make your dreams come true. Seek, at every moment, the right answer to the ethical question”. This was one of the messages transmitted by the Minister of Finance, Vera Daves, to the students, during her intervention, on Saturday, at the opening ceremony of the academic year 2022/2023 of the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN), in which she also advised them to have critical thinking.

In her speech, the finance minister also left a word of encouragement for students to develop critical thinking so that they are able to combat misleading information that appears on social platforms or in other life situations.

Cited by Angop, Vera Daves considered that critical thinking is the most powerful weapon against fake news (known as fake news), among other misleading information: "You, students, belong today to the era of digital natives, for contrast with digital emigrants, where I certainly include myself, coming from the analogue world. That's why it's crucial to stimulate and value your critical thinking, along with talent, risk culture and innovation".

In her speech, she also told the students to have good intentions in their attitudes, in the sense of being able to offer a good future to the country, and encouraged them to dream and to dare to "make their dreams happen".

"Dare to dream and dare to make your dreams happen. Look, at every moment, for the right answer to the ethical question", she said, quoted by Angop.

Maria da Assunção, dean of the university, left the guarantee that they will provide greater quality in the services provided, aiming to preserve the notoriety they have gained from national companies and public and private entities, also stressing that many administrators have predetermined themselves in granting scholarships or professional internships to the best students, writes Angop.

According to Angop, the mass that marked the opening of the school year was held by Bishop Joaquim Nyangana Tyombe, Bishop of Uíge, who at the time considered that the quality of teaching in this new year is not only subject to professional technical skills, intellectual or to effective professionals, but also to attitudes and behaviors.
