Victor Fernandes heads to Gabon for an extraordinary meeting of the African Union Council of Trade Ministers

According to a statement from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, to which VerAngola had access, at the event - organized by the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFTA) - the ministers will discuss "the outstanding issues of the 10th meeting of the Council of Ministers", which took place on 7 and 8 October, in Accra, Ghana, where the Draft Specific Commitment Lists on Trade in Services, the Draft Protocol on Competition Policies, the Draft Protocol on Investment and the Draft Protocol on Intellectual Property Rights.

In addition, the statement said, the meeting will essentially serve "as an antechamber for the preparation of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union on Industrialization and Economic Diversification", which will take place next month in Niamei, Niger.

The communiqué also mentions that the country has already sent the list of "tariff concessions and specific commitments in trade in services that are undergoing a technical verification process by the AfCFTA secretariat".

"These processes, which may be completed by the end of 2022, highlight the country's potential for both trade in goods and trade in services with the sale of petroleum products, agricultural products, the beverage industry and materials construction, such as the provision of energy, transport, banking and telecommunications services", completes the note.
