Téte António and Tulinabo Mushingi evaluated preparations for the US-Africa Summit

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, discussed with the US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, details regarding the preparation of the US-Africa Summit, scheduled for Washington between 13 and 15 December, announced this Thursday the Government of Luanda.

Téte António and Tulinabo Mushingi also addressed bilateral cooperation and multilateralism at the meeting, when the US diplomat praised the commitment of the President, João Lourenço, with a view to resolving the instability in the Great Lakes region, especially the conflict between Rwanda and RDCongo, according to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The US-Africa summit, announced recently by US President Joe Biden, "aims to bring African and US leaders to the same table to discuss issues of common interest, with a view to strengthening relations between the two continents", read in the note.

The December meeting "also aims to work collaboratively to strengthen regional and global health, promote food security, ensure peace and security, as well as respond to the climate crisis and expand ties with the diaspora."

According to the note, the US diplomat also thanked the Angolan Government for its position in the voting process held on Wednesday, at the United Nations headquarters, on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Angola voted in favor of the resolution on the territorial integrity of Ukraine during the 11th emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The permanent representative of the Republic of Angola to the United Nations, Maria de Jesus Ferreira, mentioned, in her justification of vote, that Angola voted in favor of the resolution "in accordance with its convictions on the well-founded of the sacrosanct principle of territorial integrity enshrined in in its own Constitution".

The Angolan "position", argued the ambassador, "is also in accordance" with the provisions of the United Nations Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.

"Since the 1960s, the Russian people have always expressed their friendship and solidarity with the Angolan people, having played a decisive role in our liberation struggle against colonialism and against the invasion of Angolan territory by the army of the apartheid regime in Africa. of the South", he stressed.

Today, Luanda has "with the Russian Federation a close relationship of friendship and cooperation with several common interests" and, with Ukraine, the Republic of Angola "also maintains good diplomatic and cooperation relations".

In its justification of the vote, Angola also reiterated its appeal to the parties to cease hostilities and to strive for the peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue, in full respect of international law.
