Coach Pedro Gonçalves blames troubled reception for defeat

The national football coach, the Portuguese Pedro Gonçalves, said this Monday in Franceville that the troubled reception, at the airport in that city, and the short preparation time influenced for the defeat against Gabon.

:

"Everything that preceded the game influenced us. It's the sum of setbacks. We gave a good response at home, we proved our judgment. We had little preparation time because we were conditioned by the way Gabon received us. We lost capacity," he said.

On Sunday, upon arrival at Franceville airport, in Gabon, the Angolan national team was held for more than two hours in a room without air conditioning and without chairs, as the Gabonese authorities required a test for covid-19.

The fact was considered deplorable by the Angolan Football Federation which, among several points, demanded the intervention of the African Football Confederation and FIFA.

It all happened following the incidents before the Angola-Gabon game, in Luanda, which was delayed, for more than an hour and a half, due to the failure to carry out the Covid-19 tests by the Gabonese team in Angolan territory.

Even so, FIFA decided to carry out the game, considering the tests that the Gaboneses carried out in their country, two days before the game, won by Angola by 3-1, to be valid.

As for the game on Monday, the Portuguese coach also said that there was influence on the result by the referees.

"Everyone saw that refereeing conditioned us with an unsigned penalty. It's obvious. I don't know what kind of analysis the observers make. If CAF wants African football to evolve, after several appearances at the World Cups, it has to review a lot," he finished.

The football team lost, in Franceville, against Gabon, by 2-0, in a match for the fourth round of the African qualifying zone for the Mundial2022 and complicated the qualification.

Angola has three points from four games and is last in the group, with Gabon in third with four, Egypt, which today beat Libya by 3-0, in first with 10 and Libya in second with six.

The national team returns to play, on 11 November, in Luanda, against Egypt, with whom they lost in the first round, by 1-0, and ends the group stage three days later, when they visit Libya, with whom they also lost. in the second round, for the same result.
