Covid-19: Angola extends mandatory vaccination period for access to institutions and services

The Government extended until November 1st, the deadline that obliged citizens to be vaccinated until this Friday, informed the coordinator of the multisectoral commission to combat covid-19.

Francisco Furtado, also minister of State and head of the House of Security of the President of the Republic, said that Presidential Decree 241/21, of 30 September, which updated the measures to prevent and control the spread of the SARS-COV-2 virus and covid-19, as well as the rules for the functioning of public and private services, social facilities and other activities, during the period of action of the Public Calamity situation.

"Thus, this decree 241 undergoes changes only in its article 8, whose validity was until the 15th of the current month of October, under this new decree this period is extended by Decree of the President of the Republic and head of the executive, until the November 1st of the current year, thus giving citizens the possibility to continue vaccinating, in order to intensify the vaccination process and create the conditions for greater immunization of resident and national citizens", said Francisco Furtado .

Since the announcement of this requirement, the country's vaccination posts have been flooding, with endless lines throughout the day.

Until the date, Angola has administered a total of 4,843,996 doses of vaccine against covid-19, of which 3.4 million received the first dose, representing a coverage of 22.1 percent of the target population, 1.3 million of which received the second dose and single dose, corresponding to a coverage of 8.7 percent of the eligible population.

Covid-19 has caused at least 4,870,405 deaths worldwide, among more than 239 million infections by the new coronavirus registered since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the most recent report by the Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected at the end of 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in several countries.
