Covid-19: Angola hits 1650 death barrier with eight more deaths and 349 cases in 24 hours

Angola totaled 1650 deaths associated with covid-19, with eight more deaths in the last 24 hours, a period in which 349 new cases and 150 recoveries were reported, announced this Wednesday the National Directorate of Public Health.

Luanda, with 275, registered the highest number of new cases, followed by the provinces of Huambo (18), Cabinda (17), Cuanza Sul (10), Malanje (nine), Uíge (seven), Huíla (four), Cunene ( three), Bengo and Zaire with two cases each and Cuando-Cubango and Namibe with one case.

According to the health entity's epidemiological bulletin, the eight deaths, aged between 39 and 86, were reported in Luanda (eight), Malanje (two) and Cabinda (one).

Laboratories processed 2,905 samples by RT-PCR during this period with a 12 percent positivity rate. The cumulative points to 1,056,462 samples processed with a positivity rate of 5.95.

Angola, which has been living in a situation of calamity for more than a year, has a total of 62,143 positive cases, 1650 deaths, 50,191 recovered from the disease and 10,302 active cases.

Covid-19 has caused at least 4,861,478 deaths worldwide, among more than 238.59 million infections by the new coronavirus registered since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the most recent report by the Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected at the end of 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in several countries.
