Minister of Education recognizes the existence of precarious conditions in elementary school

About two days before the resumption of classes in elementary school, the Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, recognized the existence of precarious conditions in some schools.

To get around this situation, the holder of the Education portfolio indicated that the Government decided to opt for a system that combines face-to-face classes with distance classes.

"It was necessary to reorganize the school schedules and the classes, organizing them in subgroups of up to 30 students each and shifts of two hours and 30 minutes, to avoid that the children stay too long in school and ensure physical distance," said the minister, quoted by Angop.

The minister, who was speaking at the extraordinary session of the Unesco Global Meeting on "Education", also highlighted that covid-19 forced the sector to reorganize itself: for students to continue learning, biosecurity conditions were created in the schools and classes began to be given via television and radio.

Luísa Grilo also stressed that, with the covid-19 pandemic, the biggest challenge in the education area has been to try to comply with the Sustainable Development Objectives and ensure quality education for all, adding that it is necessary to mobilize partnerships to address these problems.
