The same source stated that the maritime controllers of the National Rescue Coordination Center (CNCS) in Madrid coordinated the rescue operation.
The ship 'Figaro', in which 30 crew members were traveling - 16 Angolans, five Spaniards, five Senegalese, three Peruvians and one from Ghana - triggered the fire alarm on board by telephone.
After contacting the relevant authorities, the CNCS took over the rescue coordination.
Shortwave and satellite distress alerts were issued, ships were mobilized in the area and the 30 crew members were rescued "safe and sound" from four life rafts by the tugboat Couper Tide.
The fishing boat 'Figaro' is still floating, although it is drifting and still burning.
