According to a spokesman for the Provincial Command of the National Police in Cunene, Intendant Nicolau Tuvecalela, quoted by Angop, the 34-year-old man was arrested while trying to cross the border at mark 19 in the vicinity of Santa-Clara.
The origin of the colored stones, a red variety of the corundum mineral, was not advanced, and the apprehension occurred when the man was being targeted by a magazine.
Nicolau Tuvecalela indicated that the police action in the last week also resulted in the arrest, in the same border area, of three Angolan citizens who tried to enter Namibia with four ivory teeth for commercial purposes.
In the same period, the police stopped the attempt to enter and leave the country of 177 national and foreign citizens.
