Filmmaker Sarah Maldoror won the PNCA in the category of cinema and visual audio posthumously, because her filmography is linked to the cause of the oppressed black peoples of the world, to the history of Portuguese-speaking African countries in their struggle for national liberation against the Portuguese colonies and to the history of national cinema.
Regarding the Centro de Estudos da Universidade Católica de Angola (UCAN), which won the award in the category of research in human and social sciences, the jury considered, in a statement quoted by Angop, that this center is very important for the country to increase its research capacity.
The jury, chaired by José Octávio Serra Van Dúnem, also highlighted the fact that the UCAN center helps improve the university's position in several African rankings and awakens the interest of foreign researchers in focusing on national issues.
On Matan'yadi Norberto, who won in the theater category posthumously, the jury understood that he played a key role in the creation of the National Theatre School and that he helped develop professional artistic education, having participated and created several cultural projects.
The traditional group Kalofulofo Wino wa Matemba won for its contribution in promoting dance and music in the cultural region of Eastern Angola.
The jury also awarded one of the prizes to the artist Paulo Kapela, in the visual and plastic arts category, for noting that his artistic technique is differentiated and for considering that he is like a master for the younger artistic generation.
Rosa Roque won the award in the music category. The jury considered that the Angolan is a composer who recreates the history and customs of the country through her music.
The writer João Maimona won her category for being considered one of the most influential poets and playwrights of the '80s generation' of the 20th century.
The PNCA, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment, is considered the most important award of the State in the cultural sector. It aims to recognize and encourage artistic creation, cultural and scientific research.
