According to a government statement, to which VerAngola had access, the working group created by João Lourenço will not only be responsible for preparing the summit but also for coordinating and organising the tasks imposed on the country.
"To this end, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, has ordered the creation of a working group, responsible for preparing, coordinating and organising the tasks inherent to Angola's responsibilities", the note reads.
According to presidential order no. 204/24 of 3 September, the group will be coordinated by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, who will be assisted by the Minister of Industry and Commerce.
Furthermore, the group will also be composed of the ministers of "Foreign Affairs, Interior, Finance, Planning, Transport, Telecommunications, Information and Social Communication Technologies, Health, Culture, Tourism", as well as the governor of Luanda, the secretary of the President of the Republic for Economic Affairs and the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX).
"A technical group will be created to provide support, coordinated by the Minister of Industry and Commerce and including the secretaries of state of the ministerial departments mentioned, two technicians from the Civil House of the President of the Republic and experts to ensure the execution and punctual monitoring of the commission's duties", the statement also states.
The measure is part of "the Executive's efforts" to ensure "economic growth and development of the country, with the diversification of the economy and the improvement of the business environment".
The government, the statement added, "considers that the promotion of investment and cooperation with international partners are beneficial for the implementation of the country's various projects, as they allow the transfer of knowledge and skills, and facilitate access to global distribution networks for goods and services".
According to Angop, last Friday, in Washington, Angola and the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) signed the memorandum of understanding establishing the holding of the summit in Luanda. The aforementioned entities were represented by Agostinho Van-Dúnem, ambassador to the USA, and Florizelle Liser, president of the CCA.
According to a government statement, cited by Angop, the choice of Luanda as the venue for the summit follows a meeting between João Lourenço and Florizelle Liser, last May, in Dallas (Texas, USA).
Bringing together African heads of state and senior US government officials, among many others, this year's event is expected to attract over 1500 participants.
The summit is a platform for representatives from the private sector and government of Africa and the US to discuss issues related to ties and relations between the African continent and the US. It will feature plenary sessions and investment pitch sessions, panel discussions, networking, product and service exhibitions, as well as the signing of trade agreements and partnerships.
It is worth remembering that in May of this year, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, was in the US, where he participated in the 16th US-Africa Business Summit, which was held under the theme "US – Business in Africa: Partnerships for sustainable success".
