Bornito de Sousa and Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos suspend mandates in the National Assembly

Bornito de Sousa and Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos should 'say goodbye' to the National Assembly (AN). The former vice-president of the Republic and the former president of the AN will have decided to suspend their mandates in parliament.

:

The suspension request was presented one day after the new deputies took office, according to Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), citing a source from the MPLA parliamentary group.

The procedure will follow the normal procedures at the AN level, according to the internal regulations, and will be determined next month after the opening of the Parliamentary Year, the RNA said.

Alongside the former vice-president of the Republic and the former president of the AN, the MPLA parliamentary group is also expected to 'lose' around 20 deputies. According to the RNA, incompatibilities for having been appointed to government positions should dictate the suspension of mandates.

It is recalled that Bornito de Sousa held the position of Vice-President of the Republic during the first term of the Government of João Lourenço, that is, from 2017 to 2022. Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos currently held the position of President of the AN.
