The Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, explained that these conditions make it possible to lay the foundations for the 2019/2022 Plan for the Intensification of Literacy and Education of Young Adults, which aims to overcome illiteracy and reduce school backlogs.

Speaking during the central act of the International Literacy Day, marked this Wednesday, in Moçâmedes, the holder of the Education portfolio revealed that several activities have been carried out as part of the plan's implementation.

Among the activities, the beginning of a campaign to expand the network of literacy partners, the launch of the project "My family without illiteracy" and the generalization of the first cycle of youth and adult education in all municipalities of Angola stand out.

Cited by Angop, the minister said that from the work done it was possible to attend 419.402 citizens in the area of adult education last school year, of which 144.429 started their literacy, which allowed creating the necessary conditions for adults and youths with school delay to finish the 9th grade in five years.

Acknowledging the achievements so far, Luísa Grilo also admitted that the challenges are still great, referring that every year several children leave the education system, increasing the number of people who are behind in school.

The governor argued that while investment is focused on creating the conditions to ensure education for children, it is also necessary to strengthen the commitment to the education of young people and adults.

Luísa Grilo also made it known that with the support of the World Bank, it is estimated, through the Learning for All Project, to implement actions aimed at the empowerment of about 250 thousand young people who for various reasons did not finish school.

She also assured that the country is working to increase digital inclusion, with a view to simplifying access to the internet for all citizens.
