Nearly 50 dead in road accidents in the country in one week

Angola recorded 47 deaths and 229 injuries, in 254 road accidents in the last week, with Luanda having the highest number of deaths, with 30 percent of the total, announced this Wednesday the National Police.

According to the report on the public security situation of the National Police, in the period between the 17th and 23rd of the current month, Luanda registered 66 road accidents, followed by Huíla with 26 and Benguela with 22.

According to the specialist of the National Police's institutional communication and press department, Chief Inspector Venâncio Vicente, among the main causes of accidents are lack of precaution, excessive speed, poor road conditions and poor pedestrian crossing.

The report also highlights, among the micro operations carried out in the period in question, the preventive detention of 932 suspected citizens and the clarification of 850 crimes, with emphasis on homicides, serious and simple offenses to physical integrity, sexual assault and theft.

Police authorities also seized 35 firearms, 13 vehicles and 61 motorbikes.

"In Luanda, in actions aimed at combating crime, particularly in suburban areas, 201 elements involved in various crimes were detained", said Venâncio Vicente, stressing that in the fight against illegal immigration, the police arrested 96 citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo and seized 750 liters of diesel and 875 liters of gasoline in Lunda Norte province.
