Nesr Art Foundation opens applications for new artist residency program in Luanda

The Nesr Art Foundation is an independent art foundation divided between Angola and Belgium, founded by philanthropists Hiba and Wissam Nesr. Emerged in the present year of 2021 with a project focused on supporting Angolan artists through a platform of dialogue and exchange, across Africa and internationally.

:

The foundation provides artists with a space for research, artistic production and critical discourse, through its artistic residency program, collection and educational programs.
Currently, applications for the first artist residency program of the Nesr Art Foundation, dedicated to Angolan artists in national territory, are underway.

The jury that will select the approved applications is composed of an artistic committee of international curators, led by Angolan curator and architect Paula Nascimento. This committee is responsible for the foundation's artistic direction and will select the first two artists to integrate this edition of the residency.

Selected artists will have access to a studio, private room in shared facilities (kitchen, bathroom, etc.), support with materials to produce new works, monthly fee for personal expenses, paid travel costs (only for artists residing abroad from the city of Luanda) and mentoring program with one of the members of the artistic committee, says a statement sent to VerAngola by the foundation.

The Nesr Art Foundation is committed to facilitating connections with the social and cultural scene in Angola, in addition to maintaining strong conversations between residents and international art professionals.
All Angolan artists based in Luanda and other provinces in the country, aged 18 years or over, can participate. Applications run until September 25, through the address www.nesrartfoundation.com.
