Agreement signed with Huawei aims to improve national higher education

The minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Angola considered this Wednesday that the memorandum of understanding signed with Huawei will allow the “improvement of the teaching and learning process” in the sector she leads.

Maria do Rosário Sambo, who was speaking in Luanda, at the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding with the Chinese telecommunications multinational, classified the moment as of great importance for the ministerial body.

The main objective of the memorandum with Huawei is to "allow, ultimately, to improve human and infrastructure capacity in the higher education subsystem," he said.

The agreement signed with the Chinese operator is centered, above all in the "training of teachers and employees" of Mcnologia e Inovação (MESCTI) in the field of telecommunications and technologies of Higher Education, Science, Teinformation.

It focuses on "improving the teaching and learning process, not only of teachers, but also of equipping educational establishments that have training provision in the field of information and communication technologies", said the minister.

The official explained that the agreement also provides that Huawei supports the sector with equipment and the consequent installation, in addition to the repair of existing ones, "so that courses in the areas of technologies can have full accreditation".

"It is also planned, in this same perspective of improving teaching and learning, to create mechanisms with Huawei for the evaluation of courses in the area of ​​information and communication technologies in the country," he noted.

The memorandum was initialed by MESCTI, the minister of the sector and, by Huawei Technologies, its rotating president, Eric Xu.

Maria do Rosário Sambo recalled, in her speech, that the signing of the memorandum occurs at a time when the world is facing the crisis caused by the covid-19 and its "brutal impact on the lives of people and Education".

"What is being done worldwide and, specifically in Angola, so that there is an evolution in teaching methodologies using information technologies now finds a reason to be", he underlined.

For the same official, the successful use of technological resources in higher education institutions, now essential in times of the pandemic, "will be linked to the training of teachers and infrastructure".

"We hope that we can have a positive balance, within a year, within the framework of this memorandum signed and with results that we are all proud of," concluded Maria do Rosário Sambo.
