The Yala Nkuwu is a sacred tree, of the genus Nsanda (Mulembeira), which is located in the center of the city of Mbanza Kongo, in the province of Zaire.
This tree represents the law and the ancestral order, being considered as a fundamental piece for the culture and history of that area.
The ancestors of the Kingdom of Congo made the judgments against social and spiritual transgressions under the Yala Nkuwu tree.
The inhabitants believe that the Yala Nkuwu has the power to judge, to care for tradition, and to carry out the wishes of the ancestors.
