Referees guarantee technical conditions for the start of Girabola

The Central Council of Angolan Football Referees (CCAFA) has acquired, with funds from the refereeing, communication equipment that will be used by the referees during the 2020/21 soccer championship, conditioned due to the covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement sent this Friday to Lusa, the CCAFA, an organ of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), says it has imported, "with the same origin of cost and objective, flags with 'beeps', which is a great asset in the development of soccer.

The Central Council of Referees of the FAF also informs that the national referees in the 2020/21 season will remain in their respective categories, with no ascents or descents of step.

The commissioners, the communiqué states, must obey the invitation system established by the CCAFA body to be elected.

The FAF raffled the 43rd edition of Girabola on Wednesday in Luanda, scheduled to begin on 3 October, but conditioned by the evolution of the pandemic in the country.

The match between the 1.º de Agosto, four-time champion, and Interclube, trained by the Portuguese Ivo Campos, is the highlight of the first round, which also has the challenge between Petro de Luanda, runner-up in the last five seasons, and FC Bravos do Maquis.

Girabola 2019/20 had no champion, because the race, interrupted in March, was unanimously annulled, on April 30, due to the covid-19 pandemic, mainly to "safeguard health and huge expenses with the athletes, whose contracts expired in May".

The soccer championship, then led by Petro de Luanda, with 54 points, ahead of the 1.º de Agosto, in second position, after the dispute of the 25th round, was suspended in March following the decree on the state of emergency.

For the 2020/21 season, Girabola will have 16 teams, including the rookie Cassange de Malanje, replacing the 1.º de Maio de Benguela, disqualified before the cancellation of the race.

According to the CCAFA communiqué, as soon as the dates for the start of the championship are established, the dates for the physical and written tests and the respective updating seminar at the beginning of the season will be marked.

"The referees who have completed 45 years in the 2019/20 season, in exception, this year will continue their activity, due to the suspension of the championship," reads the document.

The referees and international assistants, "according to FIFA recommendations", will be evaluated from a medical point of view and, once approved, their applications to FIFA will be renewed.

The official training of the federated races in Angola will start already on Saturday.
