Government transfers asset management from Mabubas dam to Prodel

The Government will terminate the concession contract signed with Kanazuro Electric for the hydroelectric use of Mabubas, as an “imperative of public interest”, transferring the asset management to the public electricity production company Prodel.

:

According to the presidential order to which Lusa had access, the Minister of Energy and Water is authorized to terminate the contract "due to changes in the circumstances in which it was signed" and "imperative of public interest".

The contract signed with Kanazuro provided for the concession for rehabilitation, expansion and exploitation of the Mabubas hydroelectric plant, on the Dande river, Bengo province, for a period of 20 years.

The assets will be transferred to Prodel, which “must ensure their operation and maintenance”.

In June, the Ministry of Energy and Water (Minea) had announced that the hydroelectric projects of Lomaum (Benguela) and Mabubas (Bengo) that had been concessioned to Kanazuro Electric were returned to the public sphere.

"Within the scope of the Interministerial Commission for the Recovery of Projects Built with Public Funds, these concessions were listed, and subsequently the company Kanazuro Electric, SA, was asked to return them to the State", says Minia in a statement.

The return was made on 30 June 2020, by signing a delivery term in favor of the public electricity company Prodel.
