Cabinda independentists accuse army of killing four civilians

The Cabinda Enclave Liberation Front (FLEC-FAC) “vehemently” condemned an attack on civilians, which it attributed to the Angolan armed forces and which killed four people, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The raid took place on Sunday night in the village of Macama-Zila, in the border region of Tando-Zinzi, according to a statement signed by the spokesman of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Cabinda (FAC), António do Rosário Luciano.

"The Angolan president, João Lourenço, dangerously intensified the provocations in the territory of Cabinda and Cabindan refugee camps, in the two Congos", the document emphasizes, classifying the attitude as "unacceptable" and warning that the spiral of violence has not stopped increasing.

FLEC-FAC reaffirmed its appeal to the international community to resolve the conflict in that province of northern Angola, geographically separated from the rest of the country and bounded by the Republic of Congo, DR Congo and the Atlantic Ocean.

As recently as last week, the independence movement had denounced "hostile maneuvers by the Angolan Government against Cabindan refugees in Congos".

"With the false argument of launching an awareness campaign for refugee populations in DR Congo and Congo-Brazzaville, representatives of the Angolan government have been entering refugee centers without any legitimacy and with dubious intentions, including a false registration of refugees. , without giving explanations about its future use ", said at the time the secretary general of FLEC-FAC, Jacinto António Télica.

Separatists identify some episodes: on August 11, a six-car caravan from a delegation headed by the Angolan consul in Matadi unexpectedly entered the center of Seke Zole, having also circulated in the centers of Nlundu-Matende and Mfuiki.

On 9 September, another delegation from the Angolan consulate in Ponta Negra, "with the same false sensitization argument, but with a view to the forced repatriation of refugees", arrived in the center of Conde-Mbaka.

Delegations from Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo are meeting in Luanda to analyze defense and security issues at the common border, which should culminate on Wednesday with the signing of two agreements: the Cooperation Agreement between the Ministries of Interior of Angola and of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in matters of Security and Public Order and another agreement, in matters of Movement of People and Goods, along the border.
