Sounds From Africa is organized by the board of the Colors of Ostrava Festival in the Czech Republic and was created to respond to the covid-19 pandemic, with the aim of promoting culture and helping the artists most affected by the current crisis. So far it has been able to discover new talents, as well as to help spread the best known names in the world of African music.
Cited by Jornal de Angola, Ignacio Priego Jimeno, who is part of the event's organization, said that this edition of Sounds From Africa "will be totally innovative and different, from the format to the show itself".
"It's the first live concert series with pan-continental reach to emerge in African territory," he added.
Sounds from Africa is also partnered with Cultural ConnecNons Africa. According to James Jabir Titelman, artistic director and producer of the Arts & Rhythms Festival, held in Catumbela, Benguela, and member of Cultural ConnecNons Africa, this year's event will help musicians stand out in a year in which the "pandemic is creating a very difficult situation" for the sector.
"With entertainment venues closed and shows canceled, musicians are using online platforms to sustain themselves. Sound From Africa, despite being born to help artists in times of pandemic, is allowing to encourage cultural exchange," he explained.
The 5th edition, which runs this Tuesday, will be broadcast live and free on social networks (Facebook of the organization and Instagram of the two Angolans).
Although the project is free, it consists of a collection system of goods, which are delivered to the artists most affected by the current crisis.
