ZAP Globes arrive to reward music and television talents

In order to recognize angolan talent, ZAP Viva decided to create a ceremony to reward and distinguish figures from the world of music and the television universe of ZAP Viva. This Thursday, the television channel presented the first edition of ZAP Globes by videoconference.

The ZAP Viva teams, as well as the national musicians, have been making an enormous "effort and sacrifice" to keep viewers entertained and safe at home during the covid-19 pandemic, said Catarina Tavira, director of ZAP's television business unit, adding that this event will serve to recognize talent, but also that effort.

With the promise that the project stands out from other events of this kind, Catarina Tavira explained that the television channel has decided to ask the public for help in choosing the nominees and the different categories.

To do so, ZAP Viva asked Mira - an Angolan market research company - to analyze the tastes of the population about the world of music and the universe of ZAP Viva. The survey was conducted by phone to about 1300 people throughout the country. "This is how we got to have a list of our nominees and of the two categories", he said.

Jorge Antunes, director of ZAP Estúdios, explained that in the world of television, this first edition will only cover ZAP Viva. As for the music category, he admitted that the choices made by Angolans were a surprise. It seemed that ZAP Viva already dominated what people "liked, but they surprised and know what they want to hear," he said.

The gala will take place on October 17th and will bring news. "It will be a gala with special care, we will not have guests in the audience. We are preparing the gala with great singers, to make it a little more glamorous and we will also have the participation of many of our colleagues," assured the director of ZAP Studios.

Among the surprises is the presentation of the event: "The presenter of ZAP Globes is Pedro N'zagi", revealed Jorge Antunes.

The presenter, who also participated in the video conference, said it was an honor and admitted that this is his "return home", although he felt he never left ZAP Viva.

The categories were eventually presented by Pedro N'gazi, who admitted that the nominees are all very strong, but only one can win. "The best will win, but the nominees are all winners," he said.

For the music category, the Angolans decided and ZAP Viva obeyed. The awards will be "Best Urban Music Group" "Best Traditional Modern Music Group", "Best Male Singer", "Best Female Singer" , "Best Live ZAP Viva Show" and "Best Music 2019/2020".

For the ZAP Viva Television category the awards will be given for "Best Male Presenter", "Best Female Presenter", "Best Reporter", "Best Entertainment Program", "Best Current Events Program" and "Best Talent Program".

The names of the nominees will be known soon and the winners will be announced at the gala. It is now up to the public to vote for their favorites.

At the beginning of next week the phone lines will be opened and a website will be launched for the public to vote on. Voting is open to the general public and can be done from anywhere in the world.

"What the population decides, for us is what it will have to be", said Catarina Tavira.

She also left the commitment that ZAP Globes will not be a unique event. The channel intends to transform this gala into an annual event: the event should return next year and this time it should have more categories. According to Catarina Tavira, the channel intends to make an annual gala to "give the deserved visibility to all the areas that make up our society to the personalities of our country".

For this year, ZAP Viva also expects to advance with the premiere of new programs, bet on new familiar faces and give "continuity to the great Christmas productions", she concluded.
