Lubango is the best municipality in Angola

Lubango, in the province of Huíla, has won the title of best municipality in the country, after winning the first edition of the ‘Best Municipality of Angola Award’ on Saturday. The municipality of Lubango won category A of the aforementioned award, taking home a total of 100 million kwanzas.

On the occasion, the municipal administrator of Lubango, Lisender André, said that this achievement was the result of "long-term teamwork".

"Lubango's convincing triumph in the first edition of the 'Best Municipality of Angola Award-2024' is the result of long-term teamwork, demonstrated over the last four years, with the ongoing project of requalification and construction of integrated infrastructures in the city of Lubango", he said, quoted in a statement from the provincial government of Huíla, to which VerAngola had access.

The administrator assured that "the triumph was due to the guidance of the provincial government of Huíla, the spirit of a focused team, which showed that it is possible to do a lot, with very little, for the benefit of the population", the note reads.

According to the provincial government, the prize of 100 million kwanzas will be applied "in projects to be identified with the communities, as major beneficiaries and of merit".

In addition to typology A, the 'Award for the Best Municipality in Angola' also included three other typologies, namely B, C and D.

Thus, the municipality of Tômbua (Namibe) was the winner of typology B. The municipality of Catabola, in Bié, won typology C and the municipality of Dala, in Lunda Sul, won typology D.

With these distinctions, the municipalities of Tômbua, Catabola and Dala won prizes worth 90, 80 and 70 million kwanzas, respectively.

At the awards ceremony, attended by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, other municipalities were also distinguished in other subcategories of the award.

This is the case of Quilenda, Libolo, Porto Amboim and Lobito, which were the first classified in the category of 'Protection and Conservation of Ecosystems and Biodiversity' in the different typologies, while the category of 'Safety and Public Order' was won by Gambos, Muconda, Tômbua and Lubango.

In the category of 'Commitment to Children and their Protection/Child-Friendly Municipality', the municipalities of Dala, Catabola, Seles and Cacuaco were the first in the classification, in the category of 'Sport, Culture and Leisure' the municipalities of Gambos, Libolo, Catumbela and Lubango were the first classified, while in the category of 'Education and Professional Qualification', the first classified in four typologies were Matala, Cubal, Bibala and Conda.

In 'Equality and Inclusion', in the four typologies, the municipalities of Dala, Catabola, Catumbela and Matala were the first classified, while the first places in the category of 'Health and Wellbeing' were attributed to Longonjo, Cassongue, Seles and Huambo.

In the category of 'Citizen Participation and Quality of Public Service', the first classified were Chitembo, Catabola, Tômbua and Luanda. Mussende, Bibala, Tômbua and Saurimo were first in 'Transport, Mobility and Accessibility'.

In 'Urban Planning, Infrastructure and Spatial Planning', the first classified in the different typologies were Mussende, Quibala, Tômbua and Benguela, while 'Good Governance, Transparency and Quality of Budget Execution' was attributed to the municipalities of Cacuaco, Cacula, Camacupa and Nharêa; Gambos, Catabola, Baía Farta and Lubango, as well as Quilenda, Bibala, Humpata and Andulo, in typologies A, B, C and D.

It should be noted that the 'Best Municipality of Angola Award' was created in August last year and aims to stimulate best management practices in order to transform the local reality and the development of municipalities.
