According to Cabinda's provincial health secretary, Rúben Buco, a young man was admitted to the emergency room of one of the province's health units “with injuries typical of the disease”.
“It is still classified as a suspected case, the epidemiological surveillance team, the rapid response laboratory network, has already been on the ground and samples have been collected”, said Rúben Buco, quoted by the press.
The person in charge stressed that everything is being done to send the sample, this Friday or Saturday, to the National Institute for Health Research, in the capital, to determine whether or not it is mpox.
The provincial health secretary of Cabinda highlighted that the province has already registered another five suspected cases that arrived at local hospital units.
“Of the previous cases, the diagnosis was negative and the diseases [identified] were measles, with two cases, scabies, with two cases, and one case of chickenpox. The possibility of it being mpox was ruled out,” he declared.
The Ministry of Health recently announced that it is maintaining an active state of alert to prevent the introduction of Mpox in the country, after a public health emergency was declared by the African Union (AU) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
