Cabinda separatists call for “armed uprising” against Angolan occupation

The independence organization of the territory of Cabinda called this Tuesday for “an armed uprising” against the Angolan “occupation” and adds that it “will make all means available to the population (…) to make” that territory “unbearable to the presence of Angola”.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Jean Claude Nzita, the Front for the Liberation of the State of Cabinda (FLEC) stresses that "in the framework of the new strategy equated in the new Military Plan of FLEC-FAC, the Political-Military Directorate of FLEC- FAC calls on all its fellow citizens to join an armed uprising in cities and villages against the Angolan occupier and his collaborators in Cabinda".

The press note also appeals to all Cabindans "who still do not have the military means to participate in the armed insurrection, to trigger a permanent posture of civil disobedience towards the Angolan colonial administration in Cabinda".

FLEC has been fighting for several years for the independence of the territory, from which a large part of Angola's oil comes, claiming that the enclave was a Portuguese protectorate - as established in the Treaty of Simulambuco, signed in 1885 - and not an integral part of the angolan territory.

The Angolan Government normally refuses to recognize the existence of dead soldiers as a result of guerrilla actions by the independentists, or any situation of instability in that province in the north of Angola, always underlining the unity of the territory.
