The legal instruments were signed at the Presidential Palace, in the capital, in the presence of the President, João Lourenço, and his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, who is on his first day of official visit to Angola.

A memorandum of understanding between the ministries of Culture and Tourism of Angola and of Tourism of the Republic of Cuba was signed, respectively, by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Angola, Filipe Zau, and by the Cuban ambassador to Angola, Ester Cardenas.

The memorandum of understanding between the Regulatory Agency for Medicines of the Republic (Armed) of Angola and the State Control Center for Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices of Cuba was signed by the director of Armed, Katila Mangueira, and by Ester Cardenas.

The memorandum of understanding for the promotion of investments between the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone Development Society (ZEE) and the Mariel Special Zone Office of the Republic of Cuba was signed by the chairman of the ZEE board of directors, Manuel Pedro, and the Cuban ambassador to Angola.

The legal instruments were signed after a private meeting between João Lourenço and Miguel Díaz-Canel and the bilateral meeting between the ministerial delegation of Angola and Cuba.

The importance of the memorandums was highlighted, on the occasion, by the Angolan President and his Cuban counterpart, converging that they should consolidate relations between Luanda and Havana and "stimulate" economic cooperation.

Before going to the Presidency Palace, in Cidade Alta, Miguel Díaz-Canel, who is on the first day of his first official visit to Angola, visited the António Agostinho Neto Memorial, where he highlighted the figure of the first Angolan President in the course of relations with your country.

The Cuban statesman is also due to speak this Monday at the Angolan parliament, in a formal session as part of his visit to the Republic of Angola.

The Cuban president invited João Lourenço to carry out an official visit to his country with a view to his participation in the Summit of the Group of 77 + China (a coalition of countries, which was created in 1964 and is intended to promote the collective economic interests of the members, as well as to generate a greater capacity for joint negotiation), in Havana, to take place on the 15th and 16th of next month. The President of the Republic made it known, this Monday, that he accepted the invitation, so he will attend the event.

Angola and Cuba are based on the General Cooperation Agreement, signed in February 1976, dealing with the fields of education and health.

Cuba has been Angola's strategic partner since independence, in 1975, and supported the Portuguese-speaking country in defending its territorial integrity against the then South African apartheid regime of racial segregation.
