"I am sure that in the second legislative session the level of demand from society will increase and, despite the quality of our debates and interventions in this legislature, it will be important for us to maintain our performance as deputies at a level of political culture based on dialogue, consultation and sense of responsibility and commitment that we maintain before the people", said Carolina Cerqueira in a closing speech of the 1st legislative session of the V legislature.

Carolina Cerqueira also highlighted that, in the field of supervision and political control, parliament "is following a healthy path of institutional cooperation with the executive in dealing with all related matters, in particular in monitoring projects that are relevant to the lives of Angolans".

Monitoring carried out through "field visits and holding parliamentary hearings and permanent work meetings within the framework of the interdependence of functions" and the commitment to "transparency and good governance", she said.

According to the president of the National Assembly of Angola, many of the actions carried out in the legislative session that has now ended, especially in the field of political oversight, "are completely new and represent a break in paradigms, which reflects, in a short time of legislature, a new political reality".

The report on activities carried out by the National Assembly during the 1st legislative session of the V legislature considered this period positive, "despite the difficulties faced throughout the parliamentary year", including financial issues.

The document recommends that "financial constraints be overcome, in order to enable a greater degree of materialization of the planned activities".

In the 2022-2023 parliamentary year, 18 legislative initiatives were admitted, of which 16 were government initiatives, one by the parliamentary group of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) and one by deputies.
