In a public note about the general elections on the 24th, the president of the Associação Justiça Paz e Democracia (AJPD), Serra Bango, warns of the need for the CNE to act in a way that does not compromise the electoral process and the integrity of the results.

"The elections could reach a level of total disrepute, if the CNE incurs the old practices of not accrediting all political party delegates and not providing them with a copy of the polling station minutes and a copy of the polling station summary minutes", he stresses.

Serra Bango says that the AJPD, "like millions of Angolans, has witnessed the violations of the law by the CNE that have already turned the 2022 elections into elections that do not comply with the Constitution and the law" and stresses that it is up to this body to ensure that the proclaimed results reflect the will of the people.

For this, it is essential that the CNE respects the delegates of political parties and the rights of voters, he reinforces, pointing out several examples of non-compliance, such as the fact that the database of older citizens was not audited, on the basis of which the preparation of electoral rolls, and the non-posting of lists.

The AJPD stresses the legal duty to post the summary minutes, as well as allowing voters access to polling stations to view and photograph the summary minutes, as well as the duty to accredit all political party delegates and ensure that on election day they can exercise their rights and duties.

"It should be noted that the opposition political parties have denounced the practices of the CNE, the SIMSE information services and members of the ruling party, which translate into a series of expedients and means that culminate in preventing the exercise of delegates' rights on the day of the voting, including the purchase of the minutes that should be delivered to the party delegates", points out Serra Bango

The AJPD understands that the disrespect for the accreditation of delegates and the failure to deliver the minutes "constitutes unavoidable proof of the CNE's will to consummate a type of fraud that would irreversibly affect the credibility of the elections".

"Defending electoral truth is not an exclusive responsibility of the State and parties, but also of all citizens who, peacefully and in compliance with the law, must defend electoral truth", concludes Serra Bango, urging the CNE to act in the frameworks of the law and "with transparency, fairness and fairness in the management of the electoral process, avoiding suspicions that could jeopardize the electoral results".

Eight political forces, seven parties and a coalition of parties compete for the general elections on 24 August, in a vote in which 14 million voters are registered.
