According to the spokesman for the Luanda provincial command of the National Police, Nestor Goubel, six Angolans were arrested in possession of US$20,550.

“Six people were arrested in flagrante delicto, in the Hoji Ya Henda neighborhood, when one of the accused was trying to circulate US$20,550 in counterfeit bills on the national market”, said Nestor Goubel, in statements to the press at the public presentation of the detainees.

Nestor Goubel stressed that 241,000 kwanzas were also seized resulting from the sale of counterfeit dollar bills, a vehicle that served as support for criminal actions, seven cell phones, 12 ATM cards, 63 copies of Identity Cards, three school certificates, “passed in name of different people, which they received with the promise of employment in the Police, through the transition of the FAA [Angolan Armed Forces] in exchange for monetary values”.

“One of them received money from Nigeria and was responsible for carrying out the entire market insertion transaction. The latter received the fake dollars and entered the market here. After exchanging the false value for the real dollar, he sent 50 percent to Nigeria, keeping what are his compensations”, he clarified.
