MPLA demarcates itself from omitting the image of former President José Eduardo dos Santos

The Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA) marked itself this Tuesday by placing posters on the streets of Luanda with photographs of the current and former party leader, in which the image of José Eduardo dos Santos is omitted.

:

The position is expressed in the final communiqué of the 3rd meeting of the MPLA Political Bureau, held this Tuesday in Luanda, under the guidance of the party leader, João Lourenço.

The document states that the Political Bureau became aware that, as part of the commemoration of 45 years of national independence were posted on public streets in some neighborhoods of Luanda posters containing photographs of the heads of state of Angola, which omits the image of former President José Eduardo dos Santos.

"In this context, the Political Bureau demarcates itself from such initiatives for contradicting the political and democratic principles in force in MPLA," reads the statement.

The Political Bureau of the ruling party "recalls that the engineer José Eduardo dos Santos, President Emeritus of MPLA, occupies a privileged place in the history of Angola and MPLA".

"MPLA's Political Bureau strongly condemns all initiatives that tend to divide militants, sympathizers and friends of the party", ends the note.

Angola will mark on November 11 its 45 years of national independence.
