Young men accused of killing a tax inspector confess: "If we left him alive, he'd be a threat"

Julinho and two friends, accused of killing last May the then inspector of the Provincial Delegation of Finance of Kwanza Sul, Rodrigo Eduardo, were presented this Thursday by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) of Luanda. The young people confessed to the crime and reveal that they only killed the inspector because he knew one of his friends.

Julinho, 24, decided to break the silence and talk about the crime, which took place in the municipality of Cazenga, in the district of Gesso. In a statement to Novo Jornal, he said he and his two friends were told by another friend who is on the run that Rodrigo Eduardo had large amounts of money in his car.

Faced with this information, they decided to rob the inspector, but quickly the case took an unexpected turn: "Our goal was to steal the money, but since he knew one of my friends, we had no choice but to end his life," he said, quoted by Novo Jornal.

"If we left the tax inspector alive, he would be a threat to me and my friends. I took the gun out of my waist, an AKM-47 with a sawed-off barrel, and I did two shots, one that hit the man and the other that passed by", he said. After that, the young man remembers a friend telling him that the inspector was already dead, so they took the money and left.

After they shot Rodrigo Eduardo dead, his friends searched him and "one of them was insisting that we take the car to sell piece by piece at the Post Office and White Wing market," he added.

This is not the first time Julinho has had problems with the police: robbery, murder, theft and serious bodily harm are some of the reasons that have already crossed the young man's path with the authorities.

As for this crime, Luanda SIC spokesman Fernando de Carvalho revealed that the young men killed the inspector "because of two million kwanzas".

He also made it known that in addition to the three detainees, who are indicted for crimes of criminal association, illegal possession of a firearm, aggravated robbery and wilful homicide, three other individuals, who are on the run, are also involved in the case.

The detainees will be referred in the coming days to the Public Prosecutor's Office in order to stand trial.
