In a statement released this Tuesday, ANATA Luanda expressed "deep concern regarding the disturbances and acts of violence that occurred on July 28, 2025, in the capital city" and distanced itself "completely from these actions," reaffirming that "such behavior does not represent the taxi driver class."

Even so, it decided to continue the strike for the three days previously announced.

"ANATA Luanda keeps all channels of dialogue open with the competent authorities, with the aim of reaching a consensus. However, it reinforces the demand that the demands presented by the class be effectively met, as it has become clear that the voice of the taxi drivers reflects the clamor of the Angolan people," the statement emphasized.

ANATA's national board, in turn, announced on Monday the suspension of the strike "to prevent individuals outside the class and profiteers, with ulterior motives, from continuing to disturb social peace."

ANATA stated that the acts of vandalism, looting of warehouses and institutions, rioting, barricades, and damage to public and private vehicles "were carried out by opportunists not associated with the organization."

The strike, under the slogan "stay at home," had been called more than 20 days ago by taxi associations and cooperatives to protest fuel and fare increases.

The capital saw violent protests, looting, and barricades on Monday morning, resulting in an undetermined number of injuries and four deaths, according to a provisional police report that also announced more than 500 arrests.

Tuesday began in Luanda with transportation and businesses closed, and several attempted break-ins had already been recorded.
