According to National Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Mateus Rodrigues, the current situation is stable and the outbreaks of disorder reported this morning have already been brought under control.

"We have our forces controlling these areas," Rodrigues said in a statement to the press, highlighting the seizure of some property "in the possession of individuals who committed the acts of violence" reported in various parts of the capital.

The police have reported the destruction of approximately 20 public transport buses, and the number of damaged private vehicles is yet to be counted.

Rodrigues emphasized that the data is still preliminary, as the police are still calculating and receiving information about what actually occurred.

"From the perspective of measures, they remain high, our forces remain on the streets ensuring that those small outbreaks of disorder are defused," he emphasized.

The National Police spokesperson discouraged citizens from engaging in "any act of disobedience."

According to the source, public security forces "will not tolerate these acts of public disorder and drastic, decisive measures will be taken to restore public order at all costs."

"We want to reiterate and discourage citizens from engaging in this type of act. We are investigating (...) we have data, we have images, we continue the investigation, and all those who committed the acts of looting will be arrested. In addition to these 100, there will be other arrests, and all of them will be brought before the courts," he said.

In this latest report, the police did not report any fatalities or injuries during the riots, after citing, in their initial intervention, one injured person who was later rescued.

Earlier this month, the price of diesel rose from 300 to 400 kwanzas per liter as part of the government's gradual withdrawal of the fuel subsidy, which began in 2023, leading to an increase in public transportation fares.

Faced with rising diesel prices, the National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT) increased the price of shared taxis (occasional passenger transport) from 200 to 300 kwanzas and the fare for urban buses from 150 to 200 kwanzas.

Taxi drivers emphasize that more than 15 days have passed without the government "hearing the taxi drivers' cry for help," which is why "the taxi driver associations and cooperatives ANATA, ATA, CTMF, ATLA, CTCS, 2PN, and AB-TAXI" have decided to suspend taxi services on the 28th, 29th, and 30th of this month.

In the early hours of this Monday, there were crowds at taxi ranks in several parts of the province, with many videos circulating on social media reporting the situation, including acts of vandalism in shops, stoned buses, barricades on the roads, and burning tires.
