Álvaro Daniel, general secretary of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), said in a press conference that this year the 3rd of August takes place under the motto: "Jonas Malheiro Savimbi – the Symbol of Unity and Internal Cohesion of the Party".

The secretary general of UNITA highlighted that the highest act of the celebrations to celebrate the life and work of Jonas Savimbi will be marked by the rally that the party leader, Adalberto Costa Júnior, will hold in the municipality of Andulo, Bié province.

"During this period, youth will have the opportunity to revisit the history of struggle of UNITA and its founding leader, seeking in this trajectory examples of loyalty, struggle, dedication and selflessness to the cause of the Angolans", he said.

According to Álvaro Daniel, the first president of UNITA will always be a reference in national politics, "for his heroic deeds, for his trajectory as a convinced nationalist and patriotic, for his example of struggle and loyalty to the country".

The festivities program also includes a football match for the Jonas Savimbi – Mwata da Democracia cup and a cultural and literature fair with works left by both the founder of UNITA and those who wrote about him.

The politician highlighted that the country is experiencing "a general crisis, which affects the daily lives of most families, leading thousands of Angolans to join the most vulnerable groups of the population every day, who are now forced to look for food in solid waste containers to its survival".

"Knowing that this is not the Angola of Jonas Savimbi's dreams, the court will also be a journey of reflection on Angola dreamed of by himself and other Angolan nationalists and patriots", he said.
