Timorese president in Angola to strengthen cooperation

The President of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, traveled this Tuesday for state visits to Mozambique and Angola to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation within the scope of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), announced the Timorese presidency.

According to the same source, José Ramos-Horta will be in Mozambique between Wednesday and Sunday, having planned to meet with his counterpart, Filipe Nyusi, and with the president of the Mozambican parliament, Esperança Bias.

During his stay in Maputo, the Nobel Peace Prize winner will also lay a wreath in Praça dos Heróis, receive the key to the city, give a lecture at Eduardo Mondlane University on "Timor-Leste, the region and the world" and visit the CPLP Strategic Analysis Center.

From Mozambique, José Ramos-Horta travels to Angola, where he will stay between the 8th and 10th of July.

In Luanda, the Timorese head of state will meet with President João Lourenço, vice-president Esperança da Costa and the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.

The program also includes participation in a ceremony at the new facilities of the Timor-Leste embassy in Luanda and a lecture at the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy.

"These state visits highlight Timor-Leste's commitment to strengthening its international relations and fostering cooperation within the CPLP", says the Timorese Presidency in a statement.

In the statement, José Ramos-Horta highlights that he expects "productive discussions" from the visits on economic cooperation, cultural exchange and regional security and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
