In a statement about the fighting between the Cabindan Armed Forces and soldiers from the Angolan Armed Forces in Congolese territory, FLEC-FAC states that on Friday there was a “new incursion by the Angolan army into the Democratic Republic of Congo”, in the territory of Lukula.
According to the independence movement, “the Angolan army crossed the Congolese border in the village of Mbaka-Nkosi and Kipholo 2”, at 11 pm, and the soldiers “killed six innocent civilians from Cabinda”.
After the attack, the FAC “launched a military response against three positions of Angolan soldiers, in the border village of Mbaka-Nkosi, where 11 soldiers were killed and another 15 were injured.
After what they considered to be a “savage terrorist attack by the Angolan government against the civilian population”, the FAC promised in the statement to “arrest and punish” the commander of the Military Region of Cabinda, lieutenant general Tukikebe dos Santos and the governor of Cabinda, Mara Chiosa.
On July 4, the president of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Vital Kamerhe, granted a hearing to the elected national leaders of the Congolese province of Congo Central, in which, according to the local information website Kongomédia, the national deputies reported on the situation of security in the territory of Lukula, in that province.
According to the publication, “the province of Congo Central faces repeated incursions by the Angolan army into Lukula territory”.
The army, for its part, justifies its presence with the persecution of the rebels for the liberation of the Cabinda enclave, can be read on the Kongomédia page.
