The Capital Market Commission (CMC) committed this Tuesday to improving governance practices and the productivity of small and medium-sized companies, with its program of inclusion in the capital market.

The Emergentes programme, presented in Luanda, is a CMC initiative that aims to contribute to the economic transformation and financial inclusion of 'startups', small and medium-sized companies, via the capital market.

For the acting president of CMC, Edna Mascarenhas, the initiative launched in May 2022, where more than 100 companies competed and 20 potential competitors were selected, aims to bring together potential investors in the segment of small and medium-sized companies of the Bolsa de Dívida e Valores de Angola (Bodiva).

"This initiative aims to improve the governance and management practices of these entrepreneurs, it also aims to mature their products and services and thus be able to obtain financing in the capital market", said the official.

Speaking at the opening of the program presentation ceremony, which should select only 10 potential investors, Edna Mascarenhas referred that those selected should receive "training and mentoring".

"These will already be monitored more closely by our partners and, then, they will be presented to potential investors and our main objective is to have companies in the small and medium-sized companies market segment in Bodiva", she pointed out.

According to Edna Mascarenhas, with this CMC initiative, the capital market will be a great ally of productivity, growth and internationalization of Angolan companies.

"We are all committed to the success of the strategic priorities that we have defined for this project, of which we highlight financing solutions such as venture capital, through funds or venture capital companies, as well as 'crowdfunding'", she stressed.

CMC launched this project in partnership with Academia do Empreendedor de Luanda (AEL) Acelera Angola, Deloitte Angola and Ernst & Young.

Inocêncio das Neves, chairman of the Emerging Program Companies Assessment Committee and member of the board of directors of AEL, addressed the company selection process at the meeting, believing that it will boost and promote small and medium-sized companies.

Resorting to the capital market, he stressed, constitutes a mechanism for diversifying companies' sources of finance for the consequent increase in national production and employability.

"The focus is really on promoting the inclusion of small and medium-sized companies in the capital market", noted Inocêncio Neves, highlighting venture capital, corporate bonds and shares as some financing mechanisms.

Companies in the sectors of commerce and service provision, technology and telecommunications, agriculture, beekeeping and livestock, exploration and industry, and insurance and transport are some of the candidates for the Emergentes program.
