UNITA advances with criminal complaint against MPLA militants after incidents in Huambo

UNITA has filed a criminal complaint with the Attorney General's Office (PGR) against ruling MPLA militants, following incidents in Huambo province, which resulted in injuries and arrests, it was announced.

:

The incidents took place two weeks ago in the municipality of Ucuma, province of Huambo, following a visit by the municipal secretary of this party to one of the communes in the locality.

The information was transmitted this Wednesday by the provincial secretary of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), the largest opposition party, Navita Ngolo, questioning the motivations of “recurrent attacks” against its militants.

At least four motorcycles, assigned to UNITA, were reportedly burned and one vehicle vandalized as part of attacks on militants, attributed to activists and supporters of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).

“We identified the main authors, activists and militants of the MPLA, and with their names we presented this complaint on Tuesday to the PGR here in Huambo”, said the provincial secretary of UNITA in an interview with Lusa.

“We currently have two people detained, including a municipal secretary from another area, seven injured, some still receiving medical treatment at the municipal hospital,” she explained.

Navita Ngola, who also criticized the “inertia” of the police command in Ucuma in stopping the incident, even after repeated appeals, said that her party still has an ongoing process against the authorities of the Mbavi commune, Chicala-Choloanga municipality. .

In the Mbavi commune, she said, “our municipal secretary, when going to introduce our municipal secretary, later well-identified MPLA activists also caused several inconveniences, even cutting off access roads, and we had to abort the operation”.

The UNITA deputy also admitted that her party should challenge the electoral results (in the context of the August 24 elections) in two communes in the municipality of Londuimbali and in a commune of Ucuma and Chicala-Choloanga due to insecurity.

“Because where there is no security, where we cannot send our delegates to the list, the law protects us and we will not be able to recognize these results and, therefore, challenge them”, concluded Navita Ngolo.
