Electoral commission holds lottery for position on ballot papers

The National Electoral Commission (CNE) is holding, this Wednesday, the draw for the placement in the ballot paper of candidates for the August 24 elections and definition of airtime, it was announced.

The information was provided by the CNE spokesman, Lucas Quilundo, at the end of the 11th extraordinary meeting of the CNE plenary, after the delivery by the Constitutional Court of the final lists of candidates competing for the elections of 24 August this year.

Lucas Quilundo stressed that there were no objections to the Constitutional Court's assessment of the submitted candidacies, consequently the lists were handed over to the CNE.

"That's what the Constitutional Court did this morning and, as a result, the plenary was convened to, in an extraordinary meeting, consider the lists, take cognizance of the lists and mark the subsequent acts that result from this situation", he stressed, this Tuesday, fair.

According to Lucas Quilundo, the law determines that, within 48 hours, draws must be held for the placement of candidacies on the ballot papers, for the use of radio and television airtime for the electoral campaign and the definition of the usage grid. of these same airtimes.

The draw will be held this Wednesday at the premises of the CNE and will be attended by the representatives of the candidacies and members of the CNE, as well as guests.

Angola will hold its fifth general election on 24 August with seven parties and a coalition competing for the election.

The Constitutional Court admitted the candidacies of the MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, PH and P-Njango and the CASA-CE coalition.

More than 14 million Angolans, including residents abroad, can vote in these general elections.
