Speaking at the end of a meeting with Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, president of the National Assembly, the diplomat said they discussed the covid-19 issue.
"We talked about the situation of covid-19 (...). In fact, until now, the Angolan government has taken adequate measures to contain the infections", considered the ambassador, quoted by Angop.
Jiro Maruhashi took the opportunity to thank the fact that João Lourenço participated, via videoconference, in the Global Vaccine Alliance Summit, which took place last month in Tokyo.
According to Angop, the summit managed to raise, through contributions, millions of dollars for the mechanism of sharing vaccines against the new coronavirus. This money will allow vaccinating at least 1.8 billion people in vulnerable countries.
The ambassador also spoke about the bilateral relations between the two countries, informing that Japan has created a Japan-Angola parliamentary friendship group and that before covid-19, several Japanese senators visited Angola.
"When the pandemic situation improves we will increase this exchange," indicated the ambassador, asking Angola to also create a parliamentary friendship group similar to the Japanese one.
He classified the relations between Angola and Japan as healthy and also left a wish of good luck to the Angolan women?s handball team that will be present at the Tokyo Olympic Games, starting July 23rd.
