João Lourenço asks Angolans to take the covid-19 disease “very seriously”

President João Lourenço asked his compatriots to take the covid-19 pandemic “very seriously”, stressing that everyone is “potentially infected”, in a message to the nation.

In his message, sent to newsrooms, João Lourenço highlights all the efforts made during the successive periods of state of emergency to the state of calamity, to contain the spread of covid-19 which, "despite the sacrifices allowed" is already in phase community circulation in the country, with emphasis on the province of Luanda.

"In addressing this message to you, I intend to share with you the growing concern" arising from the expansion of the pandemic, highlights the head of state, calling for "this new reality" to be taken "very seriously" with which Angolans have come to live "all the days on the streets and in all public places, mostly closed, and with some concentration of people ".

João Lourenço stresses that "it is not the investment in hospital units, treatment facilities and specialized medical personnel that will save [people]", judging by what has been seen in other countries with a large number of infected and dead, and he stressed that humanity will only be saved from this pandemic when a safe vaccine is discovered and distributed worldwide.

"Until that happens, we only have one thing to do: do everything to avoid being contaminated or contaminate those around us, in a word, prevent us", asks the head of state, recalling that everyone is potentially infected and can contaminate or contaminated by others.

"Although the health fence is mainly around the province of Luanda and Ndalatando, in Kwanza Norte, from Cabinda to Cunene, we are all going to increase the prevention measures recommended by the competent authorities", urges João Lourenço.

In addition to social detachment and hand washing, João Lourenço reinforces the need for the correct mask, covering his mouth and nose.
"Worse than not wearing the mask, is using it incorrectly, because we deceive ourselves, we deceive those around us, we deceive public health statistics", concludes the chief executive.
