A press release states that the fact occurred when police officers, in compliance with the inspection of the measures in force during the situation of public calamity, performed a patrol service, faced with a group of young people, “at a time and place not authorized ”.
“In the intervention, out of recklessness, one of the officers fired shots with a firearm, killing the citizen who, in life, responded by the name of José Kilamba Rangel, single, 23 years old, and having caused injuries to his lower right leg. Maurício José Isabel, single, 16-year-old citizen, who is already under medical care at a local hospital, ”says the statement.
The agent involved is already in detention, for disciplinary and criminal liability, the police said, “regretting the death of the citizen”, appealing to the population to remain calm and to observe the measures and guidelines of the law enforcement agencies in view of the situation of public calamity that prevails in the country, due to covid-19.
Following the incident, which occurred at two in the morning on Monday, residents of the area protested the death of the young man, with the installation of barricades on the roads, namely by burning tires, with the police needing to reinforce the number of workers on the site and carry out several shots into the air, in order to calm the population's spirits.
