Ministry of Interior considers “barbarity” death of border agent in DRCongo

The provincial delegation of Lunda-Norte of the Ministry of Interior condemned the death of an Angolan agent in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo) by the country's armed forces, which he considered as “barbarity”.

:

"The provincial delegation of the Ministry of the Interior in the province of Lunda-Norte strongly condemns and expresses deep indignation at the great barbarity committed by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo", reads a statement issued by the institution's communications office.

At stake is the death of an Angolan agent, from the 7th unit of the Border Guard Police (PGF), “victim of gunfire by the FARDC [Congolese Armed Forces], at the Tchitundo / RDCongo border post with the Nachiri / Lunda-Norte post, Chitato municipality, ”the note said.

The document explained that two agents were "officially on a service mission along the border, aboard a motorbike" when they encountered a "camp occupied by individuals dressed in civilian clothing and with large quantities of fuel stored in drums".

The provincial delegation of the Ministry of the Interior said that the two PGF agents were "convinced that it was a group of smugglers of fuel and goods in the interior" of Angola and that, therefore, they tried to photograph them.

The camp in question was composed of a FARDC detachment, located about 300 meters beyond the border limit.

“The FARDC soldiers, approximately 20 elements, decided to arrest them and, in the vain attempt to escape, they were shot by firearms, resulting in the death of one agent and the escape of another, who had appeared hours later. in the PGF / Chitato Subunit ”, detailed the statement.

The document added that contacts were established between the two countries and that the corpse of the agent was delivered, as well as the motorbike where the two agents were following, however, Congolese forces did not return a pistol or the cell phone of the deadly victim.

The provincial delegation of the Ministry of the Interior criticized the action of the FARDC and recalled a recently signed agreement.

"The recently agreed agreement signed on June 10 of the current year calls for the non-use of firearms between the forces, whatever the reasons, taking into account the lack of visible signs of delimitation of the common border", he stressed the provincial delegation of the Angolan Ministry of Interior.

The Government of DRCongo regularly denounces the entry of Angolan soldiers into its territory, often claiming to be in pursuit of elements from the Liberation Front of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC).
