Angolan current account records surplus of 601.6 million dollars in the first quarter of 2025

Angola's current account balance recorded a surplus of 601.6 million dollars in the first quarter of 2025, equivalent to two percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the National Bank of Angola (BNA) announced.

:

According to the information note on external statistics published on the central bank's website, the result represents growth of 13.7 percent compared to the previous quarter, reflecting "the reduction in the deficit balance of primary income and the services account by 38.7 percent and 3.2 percent, respectively, despite the reduction in the balance of the goods account by 17.0 percent".

The capital and financial account, however, recorded a deficit of 625.9 million dollars, still below the 1,007 million dollars of the previous quarter.

This improvement is justified "by the performance of medium and long-term capital (public external debt) and other capital (mainly trade credits/advances and deposits)".

The current account records exports and imports of goods, services, income and transfers, while the capital and financial account records capital inflows and outflows, such as investments, loans and financing.

Angola's net international investment position deteriorated, posting a deficit of 1,329.5 million dollars, mainly due to an increase in liabilities to non-residents.

The country's stock of international reserves stood at 15,266.5 million dollars at the end of March, providing coverage for 7.8 months of imports of goods and services, according to the BNA.
