In addition to the minister, facilitators will be the Secretary of State for Industry, Carlos Rodrigues, the director of the National Institute of Fisheries Research, Filomena Vaz Velho, and the president of the Board of Directors of the Development Bank of Angola (BDA), João Quintas. Together, these officials will try to clarify society about what is being done in the sector, considered by the Government as "fundamental for reducing hunger and poverty".
The fishing sector currently contributes around 3.6 percent to the non-oil Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs around 80 thousand people in the formal and informal sectors, of which around 75 percent correspond to artisanal fishing.
Until 2027, an average annual growth of four percent in fish and 15 percent in salt is projected, due to new investments in fish processing factories and equipment.
However, the challenges of this sector "are numerous" and it is expected that they will also respond to the need for greater investment in fisheries research, production of inputs, creation of an efficient marketing circuit and training of human resources, to guarantee the sustainability of marine resources, promote food security and generate greater revenue for the country.
It is worth remembering that the CaféCIPRA initiative, which is now in its 15th edition, aims to be a space for dialogue between government officials and representatives of civil society, broadcast live on the Facebook and Youtube pages of CIPRA and the Government of Angola.
