Peitro Toigo stated, at the launch ceremony of the Angolan National Strategy 2024-2029 and celebration of ADB's 60th anniversary, Thursday night, that this will be a new area of action, in addition to the Lobito Corridor, where ADB is located working with partners and the Government of Zambia to extend this logistics platform.
According to the official, work is underway to establish new connections with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo) and Namibia, which should be completed within the next five years.
"In the entire infrastructure area, our first concern will be to facilitate the private sector's entry into sustainable projects with a development impact. Not only to reduce public budget costs, but also to take advantage of infrastructure management capabilities projects and technological transfers, which the private sector knows how to bring", he declared.
ADB vice-president, Marie-Laure Olugbade, who ends a working visit to Angola this Friday, said that the institution is interested in financing the creation of economic zones focused on agricultural production along the Lobito Corridor.
The Lobito Corridor, with financing from the United States and the European Union, connects the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Bié and Moxico and includes as infrastructure the port of Lobito, the Mineiro Terminal, Catumbela airport and Benguela Railway, extending the connection to the mining areas of the Copperbelt, in Zambia, and Katanga, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, promoting faster and more competitive exports of cobalt, copper and other ores from these countries.
