In addition to the Boma prison, Laborinho also inaugurated other infrastructures in that province, namely the provincial directorates of the Criminal Investigation and Civil Protection and Fire Services and the health center of the provincial command of the National Police in that province, according to a statement of the Ministry of the Interior, to which VerAngola had access.
According to the head of the Interior department, mentioned in the statement, the inaugurated infrastructures are part of the "plan to modernize the agency's services, which now provides employees with better working conditions, with emphasis on the Boma penitentiary establishment".
Referring in particular to the Boma prison, Eugénio Laborinho said, on the occasion, that this infrastructure will play a significant role in the process of decongesting prisons at regional level, highlighting the Luena district, which is overcrowded (it has 406 prisoners, of which 194 were convicted), writes Angop.
Capable of housing 816 inmates, the newly opened prison is equipped with modern technological resources to house prisoners in a dignified manner.
The works began in 2013, with the infrastructure being built on 24 thousand square meters. According to Angop, the project has a school, kitchen, administrative area, medical post, as well as a multipurpose field and a "naked" dedicated to physical activity.
On the occasion, according to the ministry's note, the Minister of the Interior also took the opportunity to state that in the near future the supervision "will intensify the training of staff, in technological means and in the increase of the infrastructures of the different bodies, in ways to face to the challenges of the future".
