Belgium intends to strengthen collaboration with Angola in the port, rail and diamond fields

The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Angola, Josef Smets – who is at the end of his mission and was received this Thursday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in Luanda – made it known that his country's government intends to reinforce collaboration with Angola in the port, railway and diamond fields.

Speaking to the press – cited by Angop – at the end of the meeting, the ambassador indicated that the central point with regard to port control involves training staff from Angola and the southern region of the African continent. He also added that it is a training for staff aimed at relaunching the Lobito Corridor.

According to a note from the Presidency of the Republic, which VerAngola had access to, João Lourenço received, in Luanda, farewell greetings from Josef Smets, who said he left Angola with "a sense of accomplishment".

"The Belgian diplomat, who has been working in Angola for the last four years, told journalists that he is leaving this country with a feeling of having done his duty for having contributed to the strengthening of bilateral relations", reads the note.

This relationship, indicated the Belgian diplomat, covers "mainly the diamond and railway sectors", adds the note.

Also this Thursday, in addition to the audience with the outgoing ambassador of Belgium, the President of the Republic also held a meeting with Delfina Comandala, president of the Red Cross, where aspects related to the functioning of that institution were analysed.

"The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, analyzed today, in Luanda, aspects linked to the operation of the Red Cross of Angola, when he received the President of this assistance institution, Delfina Comandala, on a courtesy visit", reads another note from the Presidency , to which VerAngola had access.

Speaking to the press at the end of the audience, Delfina Comandala said she had asked João Lourenço, also Honorary President of the Red Cross of Angola, "support for the fight against the drought that affects some regions of the south of the country".
