The 45th edition of Girabola starts on 27 August, three days after the country's general elections, informed the Angolan Football Federation.

The organization also said that the draw will take place in the coming weeks.

Petro de Luanda, coached by Portuguese coach Alexandre Santos, is the defending champion.

The 'market' for player and coach transfers continues with Paulo Torres switching from Recreativo do Libolo to Desportivo da Huila.

Lusa learned from a club source that Desportivo da Huila, who will compete in the African Confederation Cup next season, chose to hire Paulo Torres, who has a CAF license, which enables him to guide the team, unlike Mário Soares.

The Portuguese left Recreativo do Libolo after two seasons, and in the last season he took the team to ninth position, with 37 points.

Brazilian striker Tiago Azulão renewed his contract with Petro de Luanda until May 2023, after becoming the top scorer of the last edition of the national football championship.

In addition to 21 goals at Girabola, the 34-year-old footballer, who joined the club in 2016, was also the top scorer in the last edition of the African Champions Clubs League, with seven goals, and the Angola Cup, with four.

Azulão was decisive for Petro de Luanda to win Girabola, after having won it for the last time in 2009, in addition to revalidating the Angola Cup title.
