Diamond production has grown to 10 million carats in the last five years

Diamond production in the country has grown to around 10 million carats in the last five years. The information was provided by José Barroso, Secretary of State for Oil and Gas.

When taking stock of the sector, the official said that although there were less positive moments, stabilization was achieved and the levels of diamond production even increased.

"The mineral resources sector has experienced some difficult moments in recent years, but with the passage of time during this legislature we managed to stabilize mainly the production of diamonds, stabilize it and even increase it to levels very close to 10 million carats", he said, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

He added that Sodiam also played an active role in the commercialization process.

"Our Sodiam also had a very active participation in the commercialization process, it had some actions worthy of dialogue, such as the construction and inauguration of the Saurimo Development Pole", he added.

According to RNA, the secretary was speaking in the preview of the 7th Consultative Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, which takes place between this Thursday and Friday, in Benguela province.
